How to Modernize My Home in Wilmington NC
It Doesn’t Have to be Complicated
Sometimes, when we think about modernizing our spaces, we go a little bit off the deep end, you see all these things in magazines and media, but for the majority of us, it really isn’t that extensive. If you want to be on the cutting edge of modern design, it very well could, but if you’re just looking to bring your home up to date, there are three easy steps you can take to make your home stand out with a modern yet elegant design!
The first step that you can take, and one that always makes your home more modern is to improve the lighting! This is done in two main ways.
Update and Add Windows- Natural light is almost always better for making a home feel modern than fixtures. Obviously, we’ll cover both options. However, before you get too far into electrical work, focus on how you can maximize your current windows and areas of your home where you could have more.
While cutting out new windows can be a pain, it can turn a normal room into something spectacular. If you don’t feel like adding windows, simply replacing your existing ones with better designs is a perfect step. This generally will not only make your home look much more modern, but also help with electricity bills.
Update Lighting Fixtures- The next most effective step is to update your lighting. If you have old lights, getting something new and modern will instantly turn your home modern. So, take a look up and if you’re not impressed, it’s time for new lights!
Upgrade Your Ceiling and Walls
This is a great way to modernize your home because generally, you don’t have to knock any walls down or build outward. You can add things like wainscoting, wood walls, new trim, and even something like a sectioned ceiling or a faux beam. This not only enhances the look of your home but will instantly change up the look and feel of an entire room.
You can either focus this in a room or two (places you spend the most time like a living room) or go and change your entire home. Just know, if you go the full house route, it will be quite the project.
Lastly, and by no means least, updating your fixtures! This ranges from things like refrigerators, ovens, washer dryer, etc… Just keep in mind, this sounds great, but if your home is in serious need of an update, just changing the fixtures can look odd. This isn’t really a bad thing, just know a super modern appliance might look out of place in an older home. So, just keep this in mind and the style of your home when picking out new fixtures.
