Even if You’re Not Planning on Selling Right Away
Most times, when you do an addition in Landfall NC, you don’t plan on selling it right away, and that’s a good thing. However, most of us don’t live in the same house forever, so it can’t hurt to think about the future. As an addition will not only make your time living there better, but when you eventually sell or pass it on, you want to get your money back out of it!
There are many things you can do, but we’ll cover the easiest ones to do, especially when you have a full design team as we do at Avocet Design Build. Let’s take a closer look.
Light is Your Friend
When thinking about a new addition, you want to make sure you have plenty of light, but also showcase the best views your home has to offer. Especially when you live in a place like Landfall NC, where there is beautiful scenery and plenty of light! Seems easy enough right? Well, not always, as you have to take into account the facing of your home, what time of year you want the most light, and of course, what you’re looking at!
Again, this all comes down to imagination and design. It’s easy to say you want a ton of windows, but another thing entirely when you have to place them correctly and actually execute the plan.
Curb Appeal
While you can do an addition such as a bathroom or brand new floor or even a four-season room and have it look stunning on the inside. However, the first thing a potential buyer sees is the outside. So while curb appeal can be an oft overused word, there’s a reason people use it all the time. If you add a beautiful space to your house and it draws peoples’ eyes, well, you have a winner!
This can mean a whole lot of things, maybe you add a stone accent, some beautiful trim, or incredible windows. Whatever approach you choose, just make sure it’s something people walk by and say, “wow.”
Keeping Things Natural and Sometimes, Neutral
While this is your house and you want it to be exactly what you want, if you even have an inkling of selling it, don’t overdo it on the super-specific things that you like. While obviously, you want to give it your personality, if you add a giant carved alcove with Hercules inside, some people might find it a little strange!
The things that never go out of style are great design, immaculate woodwork, and a comfortable feel. If you can achieve most of those on your next project, no matter who sees the house next will feel at home and more willing to spend that little bit extra. Again, you can put your own spin on it, but if you want to sell at some point, think about the best way to design your space to get everything you need, but also let someone else imagine themselves in it.
