How to Open up a Galley Kitchen in Porters Neck NC

Updated: Apr 13, 2023

You Have Options!

Some people really lament a galley kitchen, but fear not, you have options! Especially if you’re already doing a remodel of the rest of your house, or are willing to go that extra mile to really get something amazing. Even if you don’t feel like going too intense with things like taking out walls, there is still plenty you can do.

At Avocet, we have the design experience to make any kitchen into something you will not only love for its beauty but also its functionality. Design is of utmost importance when it comes to a kitchen, so be sure to use a team with the experience and eye to make your project into a dream.

Removing Walls

Well, this might seem a little obvious, but you can in one easy step turn a galley kitchen into something big. This will sacrifice space from other rooms, but often dining rooms aren’t used quite as much as the kitchen, so a little sacrifice shouldn’t hurt your overall house too much.

This essentially can turn your galley kitchen into whatever you want. So if you have the time and money to spend, and you really don’t want a galley kitchen, this is probably the easiest way to change things up in one quick go. However, before you start knocking down walls all willy-nilly, be sure you have the walls checked for bearing, electrical, and the such.

Using Open Shelving

Not enough people think about the option of open shelving. Oftentimes, a galley kitchen is made smaller by having big cabinets jutting out into the space, this not only takes up a lot of space but actually makes your kitchen feel much smaller.

Open shelving will not necessarily give you a ton more space, but due to the open nature of them, it will give the feeling of space and comfort. That’s really the biggest knock on galley kitchens, they feel cramped. This can quickly make your space feel open.

Joining Rooms

Sometimes, instead of knocking down a wall, you can simply join two rooms together with long islands, taking up space, and really just extending your cabinet space. Obviously, this will take away from another room, but if you aren’t too worried about a large dining room or something of the like, this is a quick way to give you way more space to work with.

Basically, you can continue what you would consider the kitchen into another space. This gives you more room to actually work while you’re in the kitchen and makes your room feel much more spacious. This is a great option if knocking down a wall is really out of the question.
